The U-S Supreme Court has stayed the execution of Terry Williams.
Williams was scheduled to die Tuesday night for the 1985 robbery and murder of a Danville man.
The stay was granted so the court can decide whether to hear Williams' appeal.
If the appeal is denied, the stay is over.
Williams has been on death row longer than any of the 40 Virginia prisoners currently housed there.

M-J Designs was a store that will be remembered for its good deals on frames and its eclectic assortment of arts and crafts supplies.

In the end, it was a lack of people taking advantage those deals -- and buying those supplies -- that led to the company's demise.
M-J has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Its branch near Crossroads Mall opened in 19-94.
Now, the store is getting rid of its inventory ... and getting ready to offer customers some of its best deals ever.
The arts and crafts chain has stores in Texas, Maryland and Virginia.
The Roanoke franchise is one of 16-M-J Designs that will be taken over by Michaels.
Michaels is a Texas company that calls itself the "world's largest" chain of arts and crafts stores.

State health officials have narrowed down the portion of the Staunton River that contains the most highly PCB-contaminated fish.
Now residents want to know the SOURCE of the contamination.

A man with a handgun went into the Crestar on Greensboro Road and demanded some cash.
The tellers refused, and retreated behind the glass shield around the counter.
The robber got so mad, he pounded on the glass with the gun several times, and then gave up.

Brophy went on and on and was slapped with assault and battery charges, an April 28th Roanoke Court date and an ECHL suspension. He sat out last friday night's game at the Scope, but still managed to be in just about everyone's face, thanks to a Hampton Roads promotion.
