The U-S is protesting Yugoslavia's plans to put the three captured American soldiers on trial before a military court today.
Yugoslav officials claim they have a right to do so, because the soldiers were invaders.
The move violantes the Geneva convention, which prohibits putting P-O-W's on trial, except for war crimes.

A Lynchburg teenager is facing more than 53 years in prison for a drug- related murder last May.

19-year old Dale Lee Pughsley (PUGS-lee) was convicted of second degree murder yesterday for the shooting death of David W. Robertson.
Police say Robertson was trying to buy crack from Pughsley when Pughsley shot him in the back of the head.
This was Lynchburg's first capital murder trial in six years.
Pughsley will be sentenced May 14th.

A guilty plea from a woman who was about to stand trial for the beating death of an elderly Roanoke County man.

Barbara Jean Anderson of Martinsville was set to go on trial next week in the death of James Beane.
But she decided to plead guilty yesterday, to first degree murder.
Anderson beat the 88-year-old man with an iron poker, at his home near Cave Spring Corner in 1997.

((Joan and Bucky Joyce are refusing to give up their efforts to pull two books from classrooms at Harrington Waddell Elementary School.
They maintain "The Egypt Game" and "Jennifer, HeCate, MacBeth, William McKinley and Me, Elizabeth"contain references to witchcraft and could lead to an interest in the occult.
But, the school's principal and the city's school superintendent disagreed.

A school committee recently reviewed the Joyce's complaints but refused to remove the books.
Instead they agreed to give parents teacher's required reading lists well in advance and emhpasized that parents could make substitutes for books they found objectionable.
The Joyce's said the decision was "disturbing and devastating."

The governor rang the opening bell on Wall Street yesterday morning. He was joined by his family, and greeted with applause. The Dow gained 46 points by the closing bell yesterday.

A jury will return this morning to decide a sentence for Bud Pritchett.
Jurors found him guilty of first degree murder yesterday. Pritchett was convicted of murdering Estel Singleton at an Ironto Rest Area 2 years ago.
Pritchett testified for a second time in the sentencing phase of his trial. Although he was convicted, he did not waiver from his claims of innocence.

Harris Teeter is saying goodbye to Western Virginia. The company said its stores are underperforming in this area so it is selling all except the store in Danville to Kroger.
It is a swap. Kroger is selling 10 stores in North Carolina to Harris Teeter.
This gives each company more supermarkets in regions where they are doing well.
The swap should take place next month.

A 77 year old Alzheimer's Patient who dissapeared has been found.
Nellie Bradner wandered away from her husband in Chatham Wednesday.
A helicopter pilot spotted her yesterday afternoon.
She is being treated at Danville Regional Memorial Hospital where she's in stable condition.
