Traffic along the section where interstates 77 and 81 overlap in Wythe County is expected to more than double in the coming years.
That's according to V-DOT officials who've made upgrading the stretch of road one of their top priorities.

((There was NO shortage of residents, business owners and local dignitaries on hand at the meeting.
Most agree something needs to be done to alleviate traffic congestion between Wytheville and Fort Chiswell.
That's the area where Interstates 77 and 81 overlap.
Right now, 58- thousand vehicles travel the eleven mile stretch each day--- a number that's expected to more than d

Last summer, VDOT proposed widening the road from six to ten lanes.
But many felt the proposal was too costly and would have a detrimental impact on area businesses and property. [nat sound]
