The judge in the Bland Prison Drug conspiracy case today scoffed at the lead defendant's claim, that he was only POSING as a drug dealer in order to gather information for authorities.
Federal Judge Jackson Kiser said if the tale is true, Inmate Michael Fulcher was "on his own ticket without any government supervision."

Attorney David Whaley (WAY-lee) would not repeat his client's assertion outside the courtroom, but he told the judge that it would not have been the first time Fulcher had gathered information for the government without prior approval.

A powerful bomb went off Monday, in a hotel in central Moscow where foreign tourists often stay.

It destroyed part of the hotel's outer wall.

The Supreme Court will referee a fight over cigarette sales to minors.
The Court has decided to hear arguments on whether the Food and Drug Administration has the power to regulate tobacco.

The F-D-A decided it had that power in 1996, imposing new limits on vending machines and tobacco billboards.
Tobacco companies sued, and an appeals court ruled last summer the F-D-A has no power to regulate tobacco. The court said Congress never gave the agency that authority.
So the White House appealed, and now the Supreme Court will decide.

The new pill blocks absorption of almost a third of the fat they eat. The government approval of Orlistat is for prescription only. Food and Drug Administration officials warn the drug is specifically for the seriously obese. The F-D-A does not suggest it should be used by casual dieters who just want to shed five or ten pounds. Orlistat's approval was delayed because some questioned whether the new diet pill might contribute to breast cancer. The F-D-A ultimately decided the pill was safe.

Researchers in Japan say they have cloned two calves from cells found in a cow's milk.
The milk involved is colostrum (Kuh-loss-trum) -- it's produced in the first week after a cow gives birth.
Researchers say using the milk method may be safer for animals than earlier ones, because it doesn't require cutting the cow to extract donor cells.
