Criminal charges have resulted in the suspension of a Virginia Tech football player from the team.

Lorenzo Ferguson, in the number six jersey, started every game during the 1998 season as a linebacker.
He was suspended from the team after Virginia Tech police charged him with breaking into college dorm rooms and stealing blank checks.
Ferguson allegedly used the checks to deposit money into his own checking account.

Neighbors say that the boy lived at home with only his 18-year-old brother ...and that he was often left unsupervised. He had been expelled from school earlier in the year.

And also in Pittsylvania County today...39-year-old Victoria Sands was found guilty of the 1998 shooting death of her husband, Thomas Lee Sands.
She was sentenced to the minimum of 20 years in prison for the murder this afternoon.
During the trial, Victoria Sands contended that she killed her husband out of fear for her life, saying that he had mentally and physically abused her.

One of two people charged with killing a Lynchburg man in Appomattox County last fall has had murder charges against him DROPPED.
Prosecutors say there's not enough evidence to send the case against William Curtis Tidwell to a grand jury.
He had been accused of helping 29- year- old Sandra Ann Olivarri kill her husband and dump his body along a roadside in Campbell County.
The gun Olivarri allegedly used was recovered from the James River near Lynchburg.

A 16- year- old Appomattox Middle School student is facing criminal charges after he showed another student a map of his school and talked about shooting people.
