The long-running battle between moonshiners and revenuers reared up again today in western Virginia.
Local, state and federal agents raided farms, homes and businesses in several counties, looking for bootleg whiskey and stills.
They executed 10 search warrants in Franklin, Craig and Pittsylvania Counties, and broke up an operation that produced an estimated 7 million dollars worth of moonshine.

After all of the hearings and all of the debate ... it looks like American Electric Power will have to go through it all again.
Today the company turned over to state examiners a detailed study for a new high-voltage power line that follows a different route.
(----------)

[TAKE MAP]
Instead of connecting power stations in Wyoming County, West Virginia, and Cloverdale...
The alternative route would run from West Virginia to the Jacksons Ferry power station.

A-E-P said this alternative WOULD protect Southwest Virginia's power supply.
But not as well as its first choice -- which would bring electricity to Cloverdale.
