Rockbridge County Supervisors narrowly approved operation last year of a controversial air strip in the region.
They agreed to let it operate for a one-year trial period and recently revisited the issue to determine its future.

Last April with approval from the Board of Supervisors, Hotinger transformed this grassy field into a private air strip--now complete with aviation cones and flags.
Back then the simple structure prompted outrage from several local residents concerned the air strip would eventually become more like a commercial airport.
But Hotinger's biggest challenge came recently when he had to convince supervisors that the year-long trial period was a success --and that he deserved a five year permit to operate the air strip.
The supervisors agreed, but added a few restrictions.

The quote comes from a 1991 story in a now- defunct magazine called Virginia Country.
Amused Allen loyalists have a response.
