It was just before the sun came up this morning when the truck a Florida man was driving careened off the highway and into the woods.
Every record kept by the driver went up in flames.
Police know his trip began Saturday afternoon in Florida ... and ended Monday morning near Roanoke.
Late Monday afternoon ... they didn't know for sure what killed him.
Maybe a mechanical defect ... maybe a medical condition ... or given the time of day ... police say they wouldn't be surprised ... if a fatigued driver ... fell asleep.

In December of '95, a tractor trailer flipped and caught fire at the site of today's accident but did NOT result in any fatalities.
Several other crashes have also occurred in that general vicinity.
According to V-DOT, a quick check of numbers indicates there have been about 26- crashes over the past eight years with six of those involving tractor trailer.
But none of the accidents were deadly.
V-DOT engineers will visit the crash site within the next few days to determine if any changes are needed to make the road safer.

ELLEN: Yes, The Virginia ACLU says turning students against each other by setting up an anonymous tipline is "a recipe for disaster."
