The victim has been identified as 26-year old Jimmy Gilmore of Christiansburg, a man described by friends as a good swimmer.

His body was recovered near McCoy Falls, in Montgomery County, around seven tonight.
According to witnesses, he disappeared while trying to help a panicked young woman who apparently couldn't swim.
A couple of bystanders who ran to help the pair were eventually able to help the young woman to shore but could NOT get to Gilmore.
A Lifeguard- 10 helicopter located his body about three hours later.

A Roanoke Antiques dealer was taken to jail today.

54-year old Clyde Bryant has been out on bond- -since shortly after his arrest on a remote island on the Outer Banks last September.
But the judge ordered his bond revoked, now that Bryant has pleaded guilty to two new felonies: money laundering and wire fraud.
The F-B-I says Bryant handled more than 10-thousand dollars in fraudulent transactions between 1993 and 1996.... and squandered his investors' money at the gaming tables.
Bryant is likely to get five years to serve, as part of the plea agreement entered today.
He owes at least 2-and-a half million dollars, but does not have assets to make restitution.

The city of Roanoke is renewing its call for voluntary water conservation. At the same time it's preparing mandatory restrictions that will take effect if the water level at Carvins Cove continues to drop.

Pittsylvania County police are searching for a woman from Ringgold who disappeared over the weekend.
Thirty-seven year old Patty Jo Pulley went into Danville to shop on Friday evening.
Her Ford pickup was found across the state line in North Carolina Saturday afternoon.

It's more bad news for Pluma. The textile company has announced it's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

This comes only weeks after the company announced it would close two sewing plants in Chatham and Alta Vista. More than 330 workers from both plants will be laid off by July.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows the company to reorganize its debts, while protecting it from creditors. It does not mean that Pluma will close.
The company lost 36-million dollars in 1998.
It maintains a plant in Martinsville that employs 450 people.

But while he's discribed as a legendary coach, Osborne says his faith in GOD is what has sustained him.

Tom Osborne's Nebraska teams played in eight national championship games and made 29 consecutive bowl appearances.


In his 25 years with the Cornhuskers he won 255 games lost only 49 and tied three. But while the wins far out numbered the loses, they didn't define his career.

Osborne spends much of his retirement speaking to students and coaches about faith, in fact it was his beliefs that brought him to southwest Virginia.

((The generals came into Saturday's game against the Big Red with it's highest ranking in 10 years. But W & L could only watch as Denison exploded midway through the third quarter to end a promising post season. But this team is still thankful because of defenseman Brian Brantley. The junior never made it to the playoffs. In April his visit to the school's infirmary for flu symptoms escalated into a Cat Scan revealing a growth on his brain that required immediate surgery.
