On Monday, the Blacksburg high school student nearly drowned as she drifted farther and farther from the man whose efforts to save her may have cost him his own life.

Jennie Preston and her friends were hanging out at McCoy Falls Monday afternoon when they met Jimmy Gilmore and his friends for the first time.
She says the men were nice and everyone was having a great time until the group decided to venture out to the falls.
Preston says she immediately mentioned that she couldn't swim.

Authorities from Martinsville and Henry County joined forces today for the largest drug bust the county has seen in two years.

The City of Danville has approved a plan to pay firefighters 663-thousand dollars to settle a dispute over unpaid lunchbreaks.

Last year, the firefighters won a federal lawsuit against the city. More than 80 firefighters joined in the lawsuit, charging the city with violating fair labor laws.
They said they were required to perform duties while on meal breaks during their 24-hour shifts.
The firefighters will get what they're owed in unpaid meal breaks, minus taxes and attorney's fees. The firefighters who didn't join the lawsuit will also be paid.
