Virginia Tech openned the double elimination Atlantic 10 baseball tournament in Philadelphia yesterday with a 13-6 loss to Lasalle. Matt Griswald hit a two run homer and Barry Gouch and John West each had solo homeruns for tech but Lasalle wins. Tech had to come back last night and beat Umass to stay alive and the Hokies did - 9-4. They will meet LaSalle today for the championship and must beat them twice to win the A-10 tourney.

Winston All star race festivities kicked off in Charlotte at the Lowes speedway last night.

Winston Cup drivers qualified for the 20 spots available for the Winston. The field is made up of past winston cup champions, past champs of the winston, previous race winners from 1998 and winners this season. Bobbyy labonte would take the top spot in the Interstate Pontiac.
Dale Earnhardt also had a good run. the format requires the drivers to run three laps and make a pit stop.
Ricky Rudd got a little too anzious coming out of the pits during his run and would spin.
The night shifted to the Winston Open no bull twin 25's, two races, 15 cars in each. and Mike Skinner takes the checkered flag in the first twin. Rookie Tony Stewart would come on strong to win the second 25 lap heat.
