A Lynchburg man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a drug- related murder last summer.

33-year old Darrell Lamont Fleming was convicted this week of capital murder for the stabbing death of 16-year old Corey Pennix last August.
Fleming killed Pennix, then stole his drugs and took his money.
He could have received the death penalty for the crime, but a jury this morning spent ninety minutes deciding on the life sentence.

66-year old Dorothy A. Saunders is named in a 35-count indictment that alleges mail fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.
Prosecutors say Saunders and another woman.. Thelma Mae Barger.. embezzled nearly 300- thousand dollars from the two sisters over a ten-year period.
A trial date was set for September.

Androstenedione does not help build muscle strength or size -- that's according to a new study in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association.

The dietary supplements popularized by baseball star Mark McGwire may not even be safe.
The study found absolutely no difference in men taking a placebo and the one's on androstenedione.
The researchers found no increase in the volunteer's testosterone levels which build muscle mass. They did however find a significant decline in H-D-L -- good cholesterol levels -- which can lead to heart disease.

Danville will be one of the only cities in Virginia to participate in a new national breast cancer study.

The study will compare the drug tamoxifen, which is used to treat breast cancer, with raloxifene (REL-OX-A-FEEN) - a drug that's normally used to treat osteoporosis.
Doctors say raloxifene (REL-OX-A-FEEN) has shown promise in preventing breast cancer.
Post-menopausal women who are at risk of developing breast cancer - or have a family history - can participate in the trial at no cost.
Doctors at the Danville cancer treatment center will begin interviewing women for the study next week.

Some of the 50-thousand U-S children with rheumatoid arthritis have a powerful new treatment.
The Food and Drug Administration approved the genetically engineered drug Enbrel.
Enbrel was already approved for adults.
Doctors welcome the therapy, but they warn that Enbrel should be reserved for moderate to severe cases that fail standard therapy. They are concerned that, by inhibiting the immune system, Enbrel could cause infections.
