Only a few horses were able to escape the deadly blaze...

Authorities are still investigating the cause of that fire last night on the Waldron's Horse Farm.
The blaze killed eleven horses and completely destroyed the barn.
Joy Sutton is live in our newsroom with the details.

The barn was engulfed in flames...neighbors and farm employees were only able to save a few of the horses inside.

When Waldron arrived the barn had been completely destroyed.
Fire fighters were able to get to the blaze and get it under control and to stop it from spreading to other barns.


But only seven out of 18 horses escaped from the barn...and those that did escape were badly burned.
Most of the horses were colts...and were training to be show horses.
Those that survived are being treated at Virginia Tech Vet School.

Most of the visible injuries on the horses are on their backs...and they are receiving baths and anti-biotics to reduce infection.
David Holbrook was a trainer on the horse farm...he says he was very attached to the horses.

Luckily 10 of the horses were away at a horse show in Devon, Pennsylvania...and they will now be placed in another barn on the farm.

Two people were killed when a bus collided with a car in Halifax County yesterday afternoon.
It happened around 4:30 on Route 58 between South Boston and Turbaville.
Witnesses say the car was lodged underneath the bus-
State Police tell News 7 two people were killed in the crash, but names will not be released until family is notified.
Traffic on 58 was backed up- and rerouted for several hours after the accident.

As far as alcohol is concerned the same rules of the road apply to lake--point-oh-eight is the legal limit.
And there are new laws on the books now jet ski operators must be 16 years or older. 14 and 15 year olds can drive a jet ski as long as they've passed an approved boater safety course and carry their completion card with them.
Boaters and jet ski operators must use the 50 foot rule and run at idle speed when passing swimmers, boat houses, docks and ramps.

The Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce says the number of boating accidents has decline 40-percent in the past two years and the number of DUI has dropped 59 percent.
They say boater education and more officers on patrol have made the lake safer and more fun for everyone.
