Virginia is the only state in the nation to use (OFF-ensive) fighting techniques on young prison inmates.
Now one has died and the program is coming under fire. It is the only death in the ten year history of the state department of Juvenile Justice.

Now department employees are fighting back-- with a demonstration for the media of just how they physically subdue the juvenile inmates.
The so-called "Handle With Care Plus" program has drawn criticism from some Juvenile Justice board members, who say they never approved it.
In April a 16 year old inmate died in custody.
Department trainers say they chose offensive fighting techniques after officers asked what to do when restraints alone did NOT work.

The long-running sexual harassment suit against National Business College has been settled out of court.
Two and a half years ago, N-B-C VICE President Lisa Meredith filed suit, claiming President Longaker pursued her relentlessly on and off the job. HE denied any wrong-doing.
Longaker was no longer a defendant, because the judge had dismissed him as a defendant. Because Longaker's actions allegedly created a "hostile work environment" at the College, the case against N-B-C was set for trial at the end of this month.
Meredith's lawyer confirmed the case was settled Friday, though he would not disclose terms of the settlement.

We begin on the court at Patrick Henry high school where doctors from Carilion hospitals got together in the name of charity. They attempted to play some basketball and raise some money for the Ronald McDonald House.
The fundraising was the more successful of the two endeavors.

The clinics brain trust met at the multi purpose facility to map out a game plan for a camp that could double in numbers. To accomodate the projected increase, the staff has added high school coaches from just about everywhere. ((RICHARD GOODPASTURE:))
If the All-stars clinics are starting to sound community based, that's the way the creators want it. Scholarships will also be offered again this year.))

Believe it or not, two sports card companies already have released their 1999 cards, including the Press Pass company which showcases draft picks in their college uniforms.
Usually only the top two rounds of players make it in these sets, but former Friday Football Extra great Anthony Poindexter, the Bedford County native is in the set. Not bad for the 216th overall selection in the seventh round.

"Charasmatic" is the third straight horse in to make it to the Belmont with a chance to win the Crown.
