Frank Longaker's National Business College has settled the sexual harassment suit pending for the last two and a half years.
N-B-C VICE president Lisa Meredith claimed Longaker pursued her relentlessly on and off the job, until she left the college in October of '96. HE denied any wrong-doing.
Technically Longaker was already off the hook, personally, because the judge had dismissed him as a defendant. Because Longaker's actions allegedly created a "hostile work environment," the case against N-B-C was set for trial at the end of this month.
Her lawyer confirmed the case was settled Friday, though he would not disclose terms of the settlement.

The number is lower in the Roanoke area... 1-point-6 per cent .. but not a record.

Virginia authorities still either don't know -- or won't say -- if state juvenile justice officers hit or kicked 16- year old Wallace Dandridge in the hours before his death in a juvenile prison.
But the first death in the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice's 10- year history has raised questions about the officers' new offensive fighting techniques.
Ellen Qualls has the story about the program they call "Handle With Care Plus."

(( First, there's Handle With Care.
That means restrain a violent juvenile inmate, NO matter how big he is.

But another scenario, where a restraint alone is NOT enough-- and this kick--
[nat sot 14:11:55]

The "plus" is in the offensive blow-- instead of only defensive or restraint techniques.

((NEVER A BLOW TO THE HEAD. NEVER A CHOKEHOLD. NEVER THE USE OF ANY KIND OF WEAPON....WEAR INTO THE FACILITIES.))
[runs=:11]

So when 16-year old Wallace Dandridge was found dead in Oak Ridge Juvenile Correctional Center in April-- Juvenile Justice Board members began to ask about the Handle With Care Plus program.
They never approved it.
Juvenile Justice Department Director Gerald Glenn says he has the authority to approve the program without the board's consent.
And he says, it's necessary -- since Virginia does NOT use chemical or electronic devices on juveniles, like some other states.
[sot 14:31:56]

((ASSAULTS CAN HAPPEN JUST LIKE THAT. YOU CAN SAY TO A JUVENILE "YOU NEED TO TAKE A SEAT" AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, HE ATTACKS YOU.))
