C-E-O David Goode welcomed rail workers in Pennsylvania to the "new Norfolk Southern."
Yesterday was the first day the railroad is running trains on old Conrail routes.
N-S and CSX have divided Conrail.
N-S gets nearly 60-percent of the tracks, and now dominates rail traffic east of Kansas City.
The merger puts two trains into an area that was monopolized by one.
If all goes as planned, the deal will increase competition and should lower shipping costs.

A Maryland couple has filed a 6-point-9 million dollar lawsuit against Wilderness Adventure in Craig County.
Michael and Hillary Friedman say their 14-year old son, Mathew, was struck by lightening at the camp LAST June and is now blind in one eye as a result.
The complaint filed in federal court in Roanoke today by a Fairfax lawyer says Wilderness Adventure knew of the danger associated with thunderstorms.
But the suit says Wilderness Adventure "recklessly disregarded the weather warnings... when they sent Mathew and his fellow campers off to camp in the woods."
