A car slammed into a Blacksburg apartment building overnight, leaving the driver critically injured and his passenger also in the hospital.
22-year-old Miles Cushman - of Beckley, West Virginia - careened off of Giles Road, struck both a guard rail and a rock wall before crashing into Northview Apartments around 2 a.m.
The car ended up on its side, with Cushman trapped in side.
His passenger - 18 year old Kenneth Warden of Blacksburg - was thrown from the car.
He was treated for lacerations to the head.
Cushman was airlifted to the UVA Medical Center, where he's listed in critical condition.
Police say high speed was a factor in the cash.

Confederate sympathizers denounced the move and gathered again yesterday in protest.
Meantime a rally was held in support of Councilman Sa'ad El-Amin, whose remarks initiated the portrait's removal.

one of the Old Dominion's favorite sons from the project created a storm of controversy.
It touched souls in southwest Virginia, too.
"I think that a few narrow minded people are trying to take us back in time...when, after the war, the Confederate widows were not allowed to visit their husbands' graves. Are we only to remember half of the war? The Civil War is our past and it was fought by TWO armies, not just one. All of which were our forefathers....I'm sure my tax dollars helped to fund the restoration of the canal, somehow, and I want to see Lee up where he belongs."
Another viewer thought the new Mornin' segment featuring Steve Pardon camping out was a real trip.

Bobby Labonte went the final 107 laps on a tank of gas and he holds off the field and win the MBNA Platinum 400 at Dover.

Mark Martin would dominate early as he leads the race passing Sterling Marlin and putting him a lap down.
But rookie Tony Stewart was coming on strong and he passed Rick Mast putting him a lap down Stewart would lead for the first time during the race.
Then on lap 163 the second caution of the day came out because of oil on the track put down by Dave Marcis.
Bobby Labonte would lead at the halfway mark but moments later Jeff Gordon gets by him to lead the race for the first time after the start.
Then on lap 291 Kenny Wallace hits Jeremey Mayfield and then the inside wall bringing out the caution.
Jeff Gordon would take the lead with 88 laps and hold on until he's forced to pit for gas with 6 laps left to go.

That opened the door for Labonte and he takes the checkered flag winning the MBNA Platinum 400 at Dover.

Andre Agassi joined an elite group of tennis players when he won his first French Open yesterday in a five set match over Andre Medvedev (Mehd'-veh-dev).

Agassi becomes just the fifth man to win all four grand slam titles.
But yesterday's win in the Open didn't come easily. He fell behind two sets to love to Medvedev. Agassi then turned his game up a notch and he would win the final three sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to claim the title.
Agassi won the 1992 Wimbledon, the 1994 U-S open and the 1995 Australian open. The others to do that were Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson and Rod Laver.

Tiger Woods warmed up for the U-S Open by winning the Memorial Tournament by two shots over Vijay Singh.

Woods was the leader at the start of the final round.
His short game was on time. On the sixth hole he makes this nice chip from the tall grass and birdies the hole to go to 13 under par.
Woods birdied 7 and 12 to go to 15 under he finishes the round shooting a 3 under par 69 for a total of 15 under two shots better than Singh.
Its Tigers second win on the tour this year.

Inkster started with birdies at the second and sixth holes. She shot a final round one under par 71 for a total of 16 under par for a five stroke win over Sherri Turner.
It's Inkster's first Open title and her fourth Major. The 38 year old Inkster last won a major 10 years ago.

16 teams of 20 people each competed to physically pull a TWA Jetliner down the runway yesterday.
The aircraft weighted in at 125 THOUSAND pounds.
Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics funds in Missouri.
