Lawyers say they will appeal sodomy convictions against their Roanoke clients.
A total of eight convictions were handed down yesterday- in Roanoke's first felony prosecutions aimed at solicitation of gay sex in public.
Police have previously brought misdemeanor charges such as indecent exposure in similar cases.
But the 8 men were convicted of felony sodomy after asking undercover police for oral sex at a city park.

Virginia's U-S Senate race may offer the nation's Republicans their BEST opportunity to win a Democratic seat.

In our latest NEWS 7 Mason-Dixon poll, incumbent Senator Chuck Robb pulls only 38- percent support among Virginia voters polled late last week.
Republican challenger George Allen has 48- percent support.
That's about where the race stood when we polled in February.
The only silver lining for Chuck Robb is that his favorable name recognition rating -- at 45% in our poll -- is at its highest point in eight years.
But 56- percent of voters recognize George Allen's name favorably -- more than a year since he left the governor's mansion.
The Senate election is still 18 months away.
