but the blaze set in an abandoned Roanoke County house got out of hand this afternoon.
The owners wanted to clear the house off their property on 4232 Carr Rouse Road - so they set fire to it. Around 3-15 they had to call firefighters on the scene as flames rapidly grew and made the owners fear that their nearby home was threatened.
The abandoned house burned down to its foundation - firefighters were able to quelch the blaze before it affected any other structure.

A booming economy isn't doing much for poor Virginians.
A study from the Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech finds that low-income residents from all around the state are paying a higher percentage of their income, just to cover rent.
Poor Virginians are spending half their income on rent - that's several percentage points worse than in the late 1980's.
The Center's director says options for affordable housing are on the decline, and that wages in low-end jobs have become stagnant.
