Forecasters expect today to be at least as bad as yesterday, when the mercury hit or topped 100 in parts of the state and high humidity made it feel more like 115 degrees
Virginia Power officials say they're expecting to shatter power-use records, and they're hoping to ward off power outages from overuse and overheated transformers.

State police say the driver was going too fast around a curve when the bus flipped.

A coalition of environmental groups says another 276-thousand acres of the Jefferson National Forest need protection from logging and road construction.
In a report issued last week, the coalition says the Jefferson has been used for too long as a commodity farm for
loggers and road building.
The group is made up of the Sierra Club, the Wilderness Society, the Southern Environmental Law Center and dozens of other organizations.
About 40 percent of the Jefferson Natioanal Forest is considered suitable for logging and roads under current guidelines.
Only about seven percent is permanently protected wilderness.
