Keith, city officials aren't just asking now. They're expecting city water customers to reduce their consumption by 20 percent. They say that's essential or the city's water supply may not last until winter rains can recharge the reservoir.

they include a ban on watering lawns, washing automobiles except in commercial facilities with low-consumption equipment, filling swimming pools, serving drinking water in restaurants unless requested, and operating ornamental fountains.
City officials say residents must take these requirements seriously.

A five-year-old Roanoke boy was severely burned today when his shirt caught fire.
Police say he and a 6-year-old boy were playing with matches and a lighter in a vacant house on Nancy Drive.
The injured child was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and then to the UVA Medical Center for treatment of second and third-degree burns.
