Now Clyde Howard Junior will spend the rest of his life in prison.

He pleaded no contest to shooting 56-year old James Taylor in the head, as Taylor sat in his pickup with his two-year old granddaughter.

That's after two federal courts stopped Virginia's new trash laws from taking effect this month.
This afternoon, Attorney General Mark Earley filed a federal lawsuit against New York City.
It alleges New York has "distorted" interstate commerce by discouraging and preventing waste haulers from dumping its trash within New York state borders.

Police say the gunman killed his ex girlfriend, her sister and four of her children before turning the gun on himself.
The sole survivor was an 11-year old who says the gunman tried to kill him too, but the gun jammed. The boy played dead and then hid in a closet.
The boy said the shooting started after his mother told the man their relationship was over.

The University of Minnesota and the Big 10 are still after Terry Holland. Reports out of Minneapolis yesterday

say that Big 10's commissioner Jim Delany is now behind the effort to make Holland the school's new coach.

Holland has been the Cavaliers' athletic director since '95, and he is still the winningest basketball coach in UVa history.
Delany says Holland may be 57, but he has the energy of a 40 year old.

Minnesota wants Holland to visit the campus before saying NO.

The day started with the Pee Wee's hitting the course first.
The 11 and under golfers play four and a half holes teeing off from 150 yards from the green.
It took five playoff holes to decide this year's Pee Wee Champion.
David Hudgins took first place while Eddie Truett came in a close second.
These young golfers are following in the footsteps of several other great golfers from the Roanoke Valley.

((Tiki Barber's size has forced him to hurdle both tacklers and doubters during his first two NFL seasons. The Giants are bringing five running backs to camp for his third year. ((:))
With the exception of the Roanoke Valley All-Stars football clinics and visiting he and his wife Jenny's family, Tiki has spent much of the off season staying in game shape. ((:)) Not being in shape and trouble with NFL offenses forced Ronde to the bench for most of his first two NFL seasons. But Tampa Bay coach Tony Dungy didn't lose confidence. ((:)) A June 27th article in the "Sporting News" selected a break out player for 99 in each position and Ronde was the chosen one at corner, saying " this guy has pro bowl writing all over him". The praise stems from the final six games of 98 in which lead Buccaneer cornerbacks in tackles, sacks and pass break ups numerous times. ((:))
The Barbers will be reunited September 12th when the Giants and the Bucs open the NFL season against each other in Tampa, Steve Mason, news 7 sports.))
