Carson Hurley a business owner along Orange Avenue he says he and other businesses can't afford the cost of changing signs and letter heads. Several residents and businessnessowners agreed with him. Supporters of the change like Evelyn Davis Bethel were shocked to see so much opposition.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference thought up the idea of the name change, they say concerns about money are just an excuse.

But to the surprise of many the planning commission took their own approach by recommending to the city council adopt a dual name of Orange Avenue slash Martin Luther King Avenue.

The president of the SCLC said she came to tears during the meeting tonight because she didn't know there was so much racism in Roanoke. The final decision will be made by the city council. Kate Weidaw News 7. ))

The road to a new south county high school has been a bumpy one, as the county has searched for a site and wrestled with the financing.

The estimated cost of the high school is now at least five point seven million dollars over budget.
Add four and half million dollars more for the Glenvar Middle School project, and the pricetag for school improvements is climbing fast.

The Lynchburg Center is now at 2138 Langhorne Square -- a more secluded location with a private entrance. The new building is bigger, offering more medical services to patients. After a Pembroke man was released from a West Virginia hospital Monday--he was arresteed and charged with murder.

Michael Stewart is accused of beating Donna Jennings of Pineville, West Virginia, to death and stealing a cash register on May 31st.
Stewart was injured in a police pursuit following the incident.
He faces murder and aggravated robbery charges, as well as three counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
