A Forest contractor has won the bid to construct the centerpiece--called Victory Plaza.
The main feature is a granite arch standing over 40 feet tall.
"Final Tribute"--the sculpture that will sit under the arch--is finished and now it just needs someone to build the plaza around it.
The foundation selected Coleman-Adams Construction for the job.

The contractor offered both the lowest bid and the soonest completion date.
The foundation hopes to have the whole memorial complete by June 6th, 2001--the 57th anniversary of D-Day.

It shows Lee two days after his surrender.
74-percent of residents who responded say the new display is inclusive and balanced.
That's good enough for a 19-member advisory panel, which recommended yesterday that the revised murals go up.
But the Richmond Council member who originally objected to Lee still wants a Council vote on taking the entire display down.

A former Giles High school teacher has been indicted on an embezzlement charge.
Laura McGraw is accused of taking 25-thousand dollars from the Giles County Partnership for Excellence Foundation, over a nine month period.
McGraw was the organization's treasurer.
The sheriff's department was made aware of the problem earlier this year.
An investigator says around that time, McGraw took retirement.
McGraw taught at Giles High school for approximately 20- years.

The nation's sixth biggest bank says it won't be closing any more branches after reporting low second quarter earnings.
