Darryl Lamont Fleming had been found guilty in May of capital murder in the killing of 16-year old Corey Pennix last summer.
Fleming stabbed Pennix, then stole cocaine from the dying boy's pockets.
A Lynchburg jury opted "not" to give Fleming the death penalty for the crime, instead recommending a life sentence.
A circuit court judge upheld that sentence yesterday, adding a 25-year term for the robbery.

Authorities say the woman had called them three times Thursday night, afraid that her ex-boyfriend was out to get her.
He ended up kicking in her door Friday night, attacking her inside her apartment, and then apparently followed her outside with the knife.
State police have been called in to conduct the investigation.. Sheriff Maxey says it appears the shooting was justified.

Galax police are investigating the shooting death of a man found near Poplar Knob Road and Country Club Lane last night.
Thirty six year old James Edward Thornton of Galax was found in his vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
Police believe Thornton lost control of his car after being shot and struck a house on Country Club Lane.
The car then caught on fire. Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nineteen year old Tradon Drayton was arrested and charged with first degree murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Police have not established a motive.
Drayton is being held without bond pending a July 21st hearing.

U-S District Judge Robert Payne ruled the ban was unconstitutional and issued a permanent injunction barring enforcement of the law.

Three-year-old Lillie Smith has cancer.
It's in remission now but she still must undergo blood tests, a CAT SCAN and M-R-I every three months.
Her mother called the Make-A-Wish foundation which granted her dream: to meet Mickey Mouse.
