A new way to keep flowers alive longer works better than talking to them. An Isreali biochemist says a few milligrams of the human impotency drug Viagra keeps flowers fresh longer.
He says adding Viagra to vase water helps slow down the flowers' emission a gaseous hormone that ripens fruits and vegetables and eventually causes their spoilage. In fact, the professor says a single 50-milligram pill will sustain 50 roses for more than a week. The drug increases the shelf life of peas, beans and strawberries as well.
It's unclear whether eating the food would have side effects.
