In the eyes of prosecutors former Virginia Tech quarterback Jim Druckenmiller took advantage of a drunken college student and should be convicted of rape.
But defense attorneys are out to prove sex between the two back in March was consensual.

Convicted killer Tommy David Strickler could be put to death tomorrow after his latest appeal failed in federal court.

The U-S Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals today denied Strickler's petition for a stay of execution.
His attorneys claim another man, Ronald Lee Henderson, was the real killer of Roanoke resident Leann Whitlock.
They hope new evidence that a key prosecution witness allegedly lied during Strickler's 1990 trial will earn him a new hearing.
Strickler will make a final appeal to the U-S Supreme Court late today.

NASA was forced to abort last night's scheduled launch of the space shuttle Columbia just seven seconds before liftoff.

Today Vice President Al Gore awarded the crew of Apollo-11 the coveted Lanley Gold Medal for Aviation.
Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin touched down on the moon's Sea of Tranquility in the lunar module-

Collins remained orbited around the moon aboard the command ship Columbia.

As the nation celebrated the anniversary of the moon landing, divers were busy pulling Gus Grissom's Liberty Bell 7 capsule from the bottom of the ocean.

Gus Grissom became the second American to fly in space when he piloted the Liberty Bell over the earth on July 21, 1969.
After splashdown, the hatch unexpectedly blew before a rescue helicopter had secured the capsule.
The spaceship spent the next 38 years sitting on the ocean floor.
A salvage mission funded by the Discovery Channel used a giant crane to reel in the Liberty Bell early this morning.
The vessel was filled with thousands of pounds of water, but was reportedly in good shape.

A drug therapy used to suppress levels of the AIDS virus is NOT working nearly as well in patients as it did in clinical trials.
A new study found that 37 percent of the patients who got the so-called "drug cocktail" had undetectable H-I-V levels within a year.
Clinical trials produced numbers about twice that figure.
Researchers believe the difference could stem from patients who did NOT Follow the program closely.
The cocktail therapy is difficult. It requires patients to take lots of pillows on a complicated schedule.

The Richmond Rhythm, headed by general manager Ralph Sampson and head coach Allan Bristow, took part in the inaugural International Basketball Association draft last night.
Bristow picked one of his former players with the Hornets, 1991 Dartmouth Graduate James Blackwell.
The Rhythm also selected for Duke star Antonio Lang, who played briefly in the NBA last season.

The 6-7, 220-pound forward jumped straight from high school to the NBA last year but played very little for the Detroit Pistons.
