Firefighters spent the weekend trying to control fires in parts of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.
Yesterday a one-acre fire on Pinnacle was brought under control, while today fire fighters expected to contain a twenty-three acre fire on Lone Mountain and a fifteen-acre fire on Elephant Mountain.
115 people worked to extinguish the flames. A helicopter carrying water is being used.

He had been in jail in Virginia Beach for allegedly burning a cross.

Roanoke County authorities were transporting him on separate assault charges.
He will be taken back to Virginia Beach and now face escape charges.

It will replace a privately-owned water tower that residents have used for decades.
