They're making progress on three Rockbridge County forest fires - prolonged by dry conditions and sparked by lightning.

Firefighters spent the weekend trying to control fires in parts of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.
Yesterday a one-acre fire on Pinnacle was brought under control, while today fire fighters expected to contain a twenty-three acre fire on Lone Mountain and a fifteen-acre fire on Elephant Mountain.
115 people worked to extinguish the flames. A helicopter carrying water is being used.

Barry Elliot says the two were trying to swim to their boat when his stepfather said he couldn't make it and began to panic.

32 year old Edgar Barfield - seen here in a jail house interview - was recaptured Friday in Wayne County, North Carolina.
He had been in jail in Virginia Beach for allegedly burning a cross.
Barfield escaped from Roanoke County deputies Wednesday when he went to use a bathroom in a Montvale convenience store.
Roanoke County authorities were transporting him on separate assault charges.
He will be taken back to Virginia Beach and now face escape charges.

Henry County announced today that it's beginning construction on a one-point-three million dollar water project for Sandy Level.
It will replace a privately-owned water tower that residents have used for decades.
A water pump station will be built in Sandy Level to pipe in fresh water from Eden, North Carolina to residents' homes.
