Cynthia Carroll never dated in high school and had only one date in college, because she lacked self esteem.

That was one of several reasons given by defense attorneys to explain why Carroll began having sex with a 14- year old boy, in 1991.
It's a relationship described by prosecutors as not only illegal, but repulsive.
Carroll was the boy's teacher at a private school in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Radford.
Today her attorneys argued for a lighter sentence saying Carroll was a depressed and lonely woman -- who liked the fact someone of the opposite sex was pursuing HER.
Jeremy (Cull-tiss) Cultice, who's now 21, says Carroll was clearly the instigator.

In Danville, residents celebrated seven years of neighborhood watch programs that they say have visible results.


Shirley Coles says residents in her neighborhood are no longer afraid to leave their houses at night because of drive-by shootings.

Now they face a September trial date.

Michael W. Boyd and Cheryl A. Boyd were arraigned today in Salem General District Court.
Last week, animal control officers removed fifty cats from their home on Apperson Drive. Another twenty five cats were found dead in the residence.
After the hearing, Michael Boyd told reporters, "we loved them with all of our hearts. They were like our kids to us."

An early afternoon accident in Pulaski County has claimed the life of a New Castle man.
State police say 46-year-old Charles Hagie was driving on route 672 when he ran off the right shoulder of the road and hit an embankment.
