Firefighters will work through the night finishing a back-burning fire line.
They hope the blaze will be controlled tomorrow, but the Virginia Department of Forestry says this blaze could burn for days and even weeks, if there is no significant rainfall.
As the firefighting continues, the people attached to the Botetourt County land feel helpless.

Wayne Boblett is one of four owners of a hunting lodge on Purgatory Mountain. Since Saturday he's watched the land he has hunted on since the early 80's get eaten up by fire. Fire fighters have constructed a back fire around his cabin to protect it from possible damage, but Boblett says it's hard to see his land destroyed.

100 million dollars over the next ten years.. that's the estimate on what it will cost the city of Lynchburg to renovate and expand its existing school buildings.
Deciding what comes first and how to pay for it was the topic of a joint meeting tonight.

The arrest of a Florida teenager on murder- for- hire charges has halted what Bedford County authorities say would have been a major drug smuggling operation in their area.
19- year- old Paul Douglas Pearce was arrested yesterday after trying to hire an undercover deputy to murder a witness who was going to testify against him.
Police say the arrest stems from an undercover investigation that involved cocaine traffickers who had targeted Bedford County as a main distribution point.
Pearce is being held without bond.

A Henry County woman who was shot in the head and left for dead in the trunk of her car is recovering in a North Carolina hospital... as authorities search for her attacker.

23-year-old Shannon Wright says she drove to Riverside Plaza in Bassett late Saturday night to meet someone.
Instead, she says a man kidnapped her and drove her to a secluded area near Axton, off of Route 648.

She was discovered by a passing motorist who heard noises from the car.

The blaze on Purgatory Mountain has put made the members of the James River football team swallow a doze of reality this week.
One coach has lost a well in the blaze and

Needless to say the blaze has been a distraction what with helicopters taking off from the near by softball field, not to mention the smoke pouring from the mountain.
