The body was spotted around 7 this morning drifting in the lake. Authorities believe the body had been there for more than 2 months.

Eric, authorities say the body was found fully clothed. The man was wearing a shirt, shorts and shoes..and had a wallet in his pocket.

On June 5th divers were searching for the body of 36 year old John Schmidt of Moneta.
At that time authorities believed Schmidt was riding on the back of this boat at night and fell over board.
Divers searched the water for several days in depths up to 110 feet...but could not find the body.
And everyday for the past 69 days authorities have been waiting for the body to surface.

Franklin County authorities arrested a man in connection to last month's abduction and rape of a 26 year old Roanoke woman.
31 year old Devin Randell Elkins, of the 17-hundred block of Wise Avenue in Southeast Roanoke was arrested near Moneta yesterday.

On July 29th, the woman said she was walking to her car in the Food Lion parking lot in the 21- hundred block on Bennington Street Southeast when a man grabbed her from behind, threatening her with a knife.
According to police reports, she was then ordered to drive to the Cooper's Cove area of Franklin County, near Windy Gap Mountain where the rape took place.

Elkins was arrested after deputies spotted his car and followed it to a different food Lion at the intersection of route 6-16 and 1-22 .
He was taken into custody early yesterday morning.
Elkins was out on bond on robbery charges when the rape took place.

Nearly eight months after the deadline to fix underground fuel storage tanks -- state and many local governments are struggling to comply with the federal order.

The E-P-A told tank owners ten years ago to upgrade, replace, or seal their underground petroleum tanks by last December. So far 228 local government tanks and 22 state owned tanks are listed as non-compliant. The E-P-A can fine tank owners who do not meet the guideline up to 10-thousand dollars a day. The new guidelines were adopted to prevent fuel spills that contaminate soil and drinking water.

The dry conditions outside are causing more water restrictions. Starting Monday residents in Henry County who get their water from the Marrowbone water plant are under mandatory water restrictions. Authorities say they need the restrictions in case they need the water for a fire. The restrictions mean you can not water the lawn, wash cars, or any other unnecessary use of water. The Marrowbone plant provides water to 10-thousand households.

The event took place today at the Parkway Marina on Smith Mountain Lake.
