The fire reportedly broke out this afternoon.
About 50 acres have burned so far. No homes are near the flames.

A Henry County couple has been arrested in connection with the robbery and malicious wounding of a woman who was reportedly kidnapped nearly two weeks ago.

Today 24-year-old Howard Lee Crook Junior of Liza Court was arrested... and so was his girlfriend, 22-year-old Angela Dawn Willis of Lee's Ridge Road.
Both face felony charges of carjacking, robbery, and attempted capital murder.

16- year old Keirsten Davis had pleaded guilty in June to the murder and robbery of Jamelle Poindexter.
Davis was sentenced today to a total of 63 years in prison.
Her boyfriend, 16- year- old Randy Ross, is serving two life terms.
Prosecutors say the victim's family is satisfied with both sentences.

Deputies in Pittsylvania County are still sorting out the details on how a man accidentally shot and killed himself while driving.

Authorities say 25-year-old Clyde Stevenson Graves of Nathalie (NATH-uh-lee) was driving near Gretna last night when he tried to pull a 44-caliber handgun out of his belt.

A Martinsville woman is dead after a car accident late this afternoon.
State police say 49-year-old Shelly Frith Drane veered off of Route 108 Southbound in Henry County when she overcorrected, ran back off the roadway and overturned several times.
Drane was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Danville woman had a close call with disaster today when her car struck a train carrying hazardous chemicals.
49-year-old Constance Coles told police her brakes went out as she drove toward the train tracks.
She jumped out of the car, moments before it hit the train.
Coles was NOT injured and the train had minor damage.
Police charged her with failing to maintain control of her car because the brakes checked out OK.

Matt Chandler from Franklin County came into yesterday's round with a four shot advantage over Cave Spring's Tommy Rooney, who had the advantage of playing on the Knights' home course.
Chandler would finish up with an even par round of 70 today to win the individual title, but Rooney put up a fight shooting the low round of the day, two under 68 to finish second two shots back.

Injuries have hit the Hokies this week in practice. Split end Marcus Gildersleeve suffered a torn A-C-L in his right knee. A date for Surgery has not been set.

Yesterday, Linebacker Jake Houseright, a sophomore linebacker from Gate City, tore a cartilage in his right knee. He will undergo arthroscopic surgery today at Montgomery regional Hospital.
The extent of the injury will be determined after surgery.
