It's been a source of debate in Congress, but now increases in interest rates are making an impact in Roanoke.
The rising interests rates are affecting some first time home buyers and causing a decrease in home sales in the Roanoke area.
That's what some Realtors say and they say if it continues that sales could go down drastically.
Joy Sutton has more.

For those looking to buy a new home -- locking-in on a low interest -- can mean much lower monthly house payments.

Already this year interest rates have gone from around 6 and half percent to about 8 percent depending on how much money you put down.
Some Realtors say this has caused some people not to buy and others to buy more quickly.

A dog in Roanoke dog, believed to be wolf hybrid, has been put down after biting a woman earlier this month.
Its owner, David Robinson, spent two-and-a-half days in jail last week for refusing to disclose the whereabouts of his pet.
The animal was tested for rabies and the results were negative.
But the animal had to be destroyed so authorities could test its brain tissue for the disease.
Prosecutors and health officials say Robinson's resistance caused the woman untold suffering.

It's a matter of constroversy that state courts keeping changing their minds on.
The lastest court to hear arguements challenging a 1996 Internet law is scheduled for next month in a federal appeals court.
The law forbids state employees from using their computers at work to look at sexually explicit material.
The case was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and six professors.
The professors contend the law limits their ability to conduct research in such areas as human sexuality, art history and even English literature.
Last year, a federal judge in Alexandria struck down the law. But in February, a three-judge panel of the Fourth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond overturned that ruling.
The full appeals court will hear the case September 21st.
