Good evening everybody and welcome to another year of Friday Football Extra here on Your Hometown Station.
In the next half hour we'll showcase fourteen games from this opening night, check out all the scores from the region and update the Super-7.
[GRAPHIC=FLEMING/AMHERST]

But we begin tonight with the Super Bizarre. Early this afternoon Roanoke school superintendent Wayne Harris decided to move the location of tonight's Fleming-Amherst game from Victory Stadium to Amherst.
The decision was made because a wake was being held tonight for a former Fleming student who was murdered last weekend.
The move was out of respect for the victim's family, but officials also feared there may be random acts of violence at the stadium if the game was played there.

A few fans from Fleming did get the word and make the trip to Amherst and the Lancers had a better than expected crowd on the home side.
But things were far from perfect.

Despite the tremendous effort of the folks in Amherst, their were no programs for the fans, no public address system, the scoreboard didn't keep time the press box lights were out, and even some of the field lights went out in the second half.
But don't blame Amherst. The folks down their went above and beyond the call of duty to make this game happen.

The teams certainly didn't seem to be affected by the change of venue, as Amherst County's Chris Carpenter scores from the five yard line on the option style play. It's 7-to-nothing Lancers after the first quarter.
Early in the second the Colonels would get in scoring position on this 42 yard completion from Richard Barrett to Daray Waller down the left side.
On the next play, Jermaine Hardy, who missed this game last year, scores from the four and we're tied at 7-all.
The Colonels would do it again on a fourth and nine from the Amherst 30 as Hardy converts the draw the play into a touchdown. Fleming misses the kick - it's 13-to-7 in the second.
Amherst would close out the scoring in the first half on this 29 yard TD pass from Carpenter to Warren Braxton. The scoring toss puts Amherst in front 14-to-13.
[SUPER=52-William Fleming/21/Amherst Co./14;]

Fleming would regain the lead for good after intermission as the Colonels get the ten yard TD pass from Barrett to Waller. The Colonels get the two and go on top 21-to-14 and they win it by that score.

Northside lead 13-12 at the half, and the period after recess was boring as neither team would score. The Vikings Jubal Poindexter opens the final period with a 24 yard touchdown jaunt. 19-12 Teacher. ((:))
Another Northside TD but the student would not quit. The Knights Jacob Lewis finds Iain Swisher on a 57 yard bomb that cut the Vikings margin to seven, 25-18 with 3:05 left in the game. ((:))
But Poindexter sealed the deal with his third touchdown of the night on a 53 yard run. Northside went up 32-18. Teacher beats student by that score as the Vikings make it two straight against the Knight.))

A beautiful full moon was hovering high over the field in Danville tonight as folks settled in for opening night in Southside.
We pick it up in the third with the score 7-to-6 GW. Jeremy Motley hands off to Terry Echols and he breaks it off the near sideline for a nice 15 yard gain.
Motley only wishes he could have handed off all night, because later in the third he is back to punt from his own endzone and Gar-Field blocks it. They recover on the GW five yard line.
But give the Eagles credit they hold them to nothing.
In the fourth Gar-Field is again looking to take the lead as Ryan Smith makes the pass to Justin Smith. It's good for 10 yards and it sets up the game winner.

The Bees were swarming and looking to sting the Spartans on a sultry night in Campbell County. Early in the first, Brookville catches Salem off guard. From the 28 Martellus Braxton fires deep down the field to Lavar Anthony. He pulls it in between two defenders and takes it 72 yards for the Brookville score.
Salem would answer that with the veteran Andy Mullins handing off to Dennis Haley another senior. He goes around the right side for a 32 yard gain.
Manuel Lewis would cap the drive with the two yard score up the middle to tie the game at 7-all.
Salem would catch another break on the ensuing kickoff as Lamar Kennedy drops the ball and the Spartans recover in Brookville territory.
