Good Morning, I' m Melanie Moon.
Strong winds and rain from Hurricane Dennis are hitting the North Carolina coast.
Rain has fallen in some areas of the southern coast at the rate of almost three inches-an-hour.
Winds are gusting up to 80 miles-an-hour.
At last report Dennis was about 100 miles south-southwest of Cape Lookout, North Carolina.

The eye of Hurricane Dennis may never touch land, but it's still stirring up high winds heavy rain and fear. Residents along the Carolina coast are getting a small taste of what could be Dennis ever comes ashore.

Forecasts like this are keeping emergency personnel on overdrive, coordinating plans for coastal residents. A mandatory evacuation is now in effect along the fragile barrier islands of the North Carolina coast...150-thousand people have been put on alert as Hurricane Dennis makes his way north. But before they hit the road, many residents boarded up their homes. They know that forecasts are not always right and don't want to leave anything to chance.

22- year old Jason Sanders Wolfe of Route 4 in Wytheville faces a murder charge.
Wolfe was arrested after deputies answered a disturbance call in the Stony Fork area of Wythe County and discovered a victim, who apparently died from a blow to the head.
The victim's name is being held until the family can be notified.
Wolfe is held at the New River Regional Jail without bond.

Southern California firefighters have been working through the night battling several out of control wildfires.
Officials say some two-thousand acres have burned in the San Bernadino National Forest.
That fire is now 50 percent contained.

"The recent dismissal of the doctors at Internal Medicine has just left me completely bewildered. We, as the public, are expected to pay (high) prices for health care to Carilion and all like it. These doctors were released because they made the ill fated mistake of spending too much time with their patients. When I am Ill, I want my doctor's full attention. Yes, it may take longer because he or she is spending that same quality time with the patient before me, but I know that my time is coming...To the giants of Carilion, I ask you, what will you think when this happens to you or your loved one?"

It's currently skirting the coastline, packing winds in excess of one hundred miles an hour.
Some forecasters are predicting that it won't touch land and will make a northeast turn further out into the Atlantic.
But many coastal residents aren't taking any chances, they're boarding up their homes and heading inland.

There's cautious hope -- but fear of shifting winds -- as firefighters across the West try to control dozens of wildfires.
In California, one house has been destroyed near Lake Arrowhead, near Los Angeles, in a blaze that's devoured over 16-thousand acres.
Officials say some other structures were destroyed.

And in Christiansburg, police have not released the name of the man killed over the weekend in what may have been a hit and run accident.
The body of a man was found on a neighborhood street early yesterday morning.

A freak storm has killed at least four people and left thousands homeless in Cape Town, South Africa.
