Southwest Virginia is being pounded by the remnants of former Tropical Storm Dennis.
As the rain fell last night and the water began to rise, some diesel tanks were washed downstream in the Roanoke River.

It happened near the Hanna's Court Trailer Park in Roanoke .
The tanks were part of a construction project, where workers have been pumping water out of a section of the river.
High water over-ran a temporary dam, flooding the pumps and washing away the tanks.
Officials say the tanks were sealed, and did NOT leak.
The contractor says he didn't expect the water to rise so quickly.

As Dennis moved over the state this weekend, some drought stricken areas are finding a silver lining.
The national weather service says anywhere from two to six inches of rain fell over inland areas.
But the storm wreaked considerable havoc and took a heavy economic toll for businesses which depend on Labor Day tourists.

The rain is helping Carvins Cove.
Its currently 28.3 feet below the spillway.
That's up more than 10 inches from Friday and it will probably rise another foot today.
That's good news for Roanoke city residents who say the rain is a much needed blessing.

This is good news for Carvins Cove ... since this creek is one of its main sources of water.

People in Coastal Carolina are finally saying goodbye to Dennis.

The former Hurricane stalled off the coast for days, whipping the coast with high winds, rain and heavy surf.
While Dennis did damage homes along the coast, it was NOT as bad as many people feared, officials say floodwaters are already receding.
Parts of the Outer Banks are being re-opened to vehicle traffic.

this one that happened on interstate 81 near the Arcadia exit around 10 yesterday morning.
The driver of this tractor trailer was traveling southbound when he lost control and slid into the median strip and jack knifed.
Debris then flew into the northbound lanes blowing out one vehicles window.
No one was seriously injured but the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Two cars exploded in northern Israel yesterday -- an apparent attempt to halt the newly revived peace process.

A viewer in Rocky Mount [Carole Muncy] wrote:
I am amazed that the assault of a child carries less penalty than the assault of an adult person. Mr. Bedrosian had no right to spank that child. If the child was causing a problem, he could have picked up his infant and walked away, addressing his problem to security and letting him handle it.
The judge shows even poorer judgment than Mr. Bedrosian. I'm not surprised the mother left with no comment - I would have been speechless with disgust myself. Perhaps Mr. Bedrosian can provide the public with a list of people that, in his esteemed view, need disciplining, then the public can decide if they want to vote for him.

Danville's former City Manager is being considered for a City Manager position in Kingsport, Tennessee.

On June 30th Ray Griffin resigned from his position in Danville after coming under fire from members of city council.
Right now the city of Kingsport is negotiating a salary package and conducting a background check before offering him the job. Kingsport officials say Griffin will be taking a salary cut--in Danville he made 108 thousand dollars a year. No word on when a decision will be made.

The rain has caused slick conditions on area roads.
The driver of this tractor trailer was traveling southbound on I-81 yesterday morning when he lost control and slid into the median strip and jack knifed.
Debris then flew into the northbound lanes blowing out one vehicles window.
No one was seriously injured but the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Danville's former City Manager may have a new job.
Ray Griffin is being considered for a City Manager position in Kingsport, Tennessee.
On June 30th Griffin resigned from his position in Danville after coming under fire from members of city council. Right now the city of Kingsport is negotiating a salary package and conducting a background check before offering him the job. No word on when a decision will be made.
