Union bus drivers at Valley Metro in Roanoke ARE talking about THEIR job situation.

The driver's contract expired yesterday, just as they voted on whether to accept a new deal.
Today all the buses were rolling, and union officials confirmed the contract was approved.
Valley Metro officials say the drivers received a pay raise and a better deal on their medical insurance.
The company is happy with the length of the new contract, nearly three years- It expires in June of 2002.

A grand jury is next in line to weigh the evidence against a Wythe County woman accused in a "murder for hire" scheme.

A judge today certified the charges against Julia Alderman to the November grand jury.
The 34-year old is accused of trying to hire three women to kill her romantic rival.
Pulaski investigators say Alderman was having an affair with a married man and wanted to have his wife killed.
Alderman is currently free on bond.

27-year old Douglas Pendleton told police he was showing his wife a gun inside their home on Crestview Drive when the weapon accidentally fired.
28-year old Jennifer Pendleton died of a single gunshot wound to the neck.
Prosecutors had sought to indict Pendleton on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The next person scheduled for execution in Virginia is asking Governor Gilmore for clemency.
Everett Lee Mueller claims he lied to police , when he confessed to raping and killing a ten year girl in Chesterfield County nine years ago.
Lee is scheduled for execution Thursday. At this point, only Gilmore or the U-S Supreme court can stop it.

Henry County deputies say that two teenagers who went on a weekend crime spree in two counties are in custody tonight.

18-year old Phillip Chad McMahon of Martinsville and a 15-year-old Pittsylvania County boy are charged with robbing a man at gunpoint and attempting to rob another.
Authorities say they also stole a Camaro and a church van, led authorities on an all-night manhunt and rammed a patrol car trying to escape.

An elderly Bedford County woman apparently drowned yesterday while swimming alone in Smith Mountain Lake.
A fisherman found the body of 79-year old Karin A. Dotsenko of Huddleston around 7:00 PM.
Neighbors say Dotsenko often went for afternoon swims in the lake by herself.
"No" foul play is suspected.

It's just a high-speed pursuit training exercise for rookie officers and deputies from three counties, Danville and Martinsville.
The rookies have to chase their instructors around hairpin turns on a three-and-a-half mile course, at speeds of about 75 miles an hour.
The exercise is part of 17 weeks of training that the rookies have to go through before they graduate this Friday .. and become full-fledged officers and deputies.
