23- year- old Robert Junior Wright pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of first degree murder for the beating death of Jeffrey Kirkland in April of 1998.
Police say Wright and two other men stomped Kirkland to death after claiming he had "snitched" on them to the police about some illegal drugs.
The murder was witnessed by Kirkland's ten- year- old nephew, and prosecutors wanted to spare the boy from having to testify in a capital murder trial.
Wright was sentenced to nearly 42 years in prison.
