What will stay and what will go in the plans for a new Roanoke County High School?
The money okayed for the school doesn't cover everything in the blueprints - so tonight it was up to the School Board to do some chopping.

Jean, last week Roanoke County's Board of Supervisors allocated 30 million dollars for the new high school that will be built at the Woods End site.

The problem: that's 4 million dollars less than what was the school board was asking.
So tonight board members made final decisions on what to cut from the plans to meet the budget... That after meeting with the architect team yesterday.
Roanoke County's superintendent says eliminating items from the school wasn't an easy task.

Some of the changes include a decrease in the size of the auditorium from 800 to 600 seats... and a reduction in both gym costs and the furniture budget.

School board members say they feel they have done what the Board of Supervisors asked.

The next step is to have the architects go back to the blue prints to make the necessary adjustments.

Bowers was recovering from emergency eye surgery and missed the meeting on Saturday.
In a statement today, he said it's incumbent upon those who are trying to eliminate Ritchie from the process to explain to the public "what it is" in Jim Ritchie's performance that was not commendable to the citizens of Roanoke.
