A number of parents owing money in Pulaski County found out the hard way what happens when you don't pay up.

This week, their efforts paid off.

(( Over the past two days-- more than 24 thousand dollars in back child support was collected here at the Pulaski County courthouse.
The parents were ordered to appear in court either yesterday or today to pay- up.
Those who showed without money were taken into custody.
The operation was the result of a collaborative effort between Child Support Enforcement and several Pulaski County agencies-- including the sheriff's office, regional jail and Juvenile and Domestic Relations court.
Carol Dooley's husband was one of the 23- arrested.
He owes about two thousand dollars.

NO charges have been placed yet in the case of a one- month old baby whose dead body was found in a microwave oven in New Kent County.

Local authorities say they're waiting for the exact cause of death to be determined.
But Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner has already said the baby's body had burns consistent with those caused by a microwave.
The baby's body was found by a sheriff's deputy after a caller reported the child missing.

Richmond Police are asking for help again with the severed head murder of a homeless man in March.
Police say they've done 75 interviews, followed up on numerous local and out-of-state tips, and are working with the F-B-I.
Henry Edward Northington's severed head was found in a city park... and his body was located about a mile down the James River.

An auto-parts warehouse is pulling out of town and leaving some 70-workers behind.

NAPA delivered the news to its Roanoke distribution center this week.
The center's manager said NAPA will spread the work done in Roanoke to distributions centers in Richmond... Greensboro... High Point and Knoxville.
He also said most of the people who work in Roanoke will be offered jobs at other NAPA centers ... if they're willing to move.
None of the NAPA parts stores will shut down.
The distribution center will close early next year.

A sinkhole along Interstate 81 is causing traffic delays.

This one is between the Mint Spring and Greenville interchanges in Augusta County, about 70 miles north of Roanoke.


It started as a six inch hole along the ditch line that spread underground towards the interstate.
But now excavation of the area has uncovered a hole that is 40 feet across and 28 feet deep.
Southbound trucks are being detoured onto Route 11 between these exits and southbound traffic is down one lane.
V-DOT officials say the drought is partially to blame for the recent sinkholes.

Fire officials are trying to learn what started a mobile home fire near Elliston this morning.

Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the building when firefighters got to Hale's Trailer Park.
They had the fire out in a few minutes... with help from a Roanoke County crew.
Six people live in the trailer. They weren't home when the fire started, but their dog was killed.
Officials believe the fire may have started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation.

A biotech facility could soon be coming to Craig County, to raise genetically-altered cattle.
But residents in Craig county say they are concerned about possible threats to the environment.
And tonight they are meeting with the Pharming company to express their concerns.

A hospital is not the typical place for clowning around, but Carilion Medical Center for Children made an exception today for rodeo bull fighter Mike Smith.

Since the young patients can't go to the rodeo show, the rodeo clown cowboy came to them.
Smith says sometimes it's nice for the children to see someone who is NOT wearing a white coat.
