It could represent a breakthrough in the treatment of AIDS.
The new type of drug helps clear the virus from the bloodstream.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
The treatment known as T-20 has one large drawback compared with other AIDS drugs.
It is not a pill, and it must be injected twice daily.
T-20 is a member of a new class of anti-HIV compounds known as fusion inhibitors.
Research shows that T-20 appears to be safe and well-tolerated except for mild to moderate irritation at the injection site.
A study of 71 patients also found that because the drug attacks the HIV virus before it enters the cell, it seems to work in people who are no longer susceptible to other classes of antiviral AIDS drugs.

[GRAPHIC=Losing Weight]
Anyone who's tried to lose a few pounds knows how well the human body
can resist a change in weight.
Stop eating, and the body thinks it is being starved, and compensates
by burning less energy.
Scientists think each body has a specific target for weight, and
adjusts to reach it.
New research brings them closer than ever to understanding why this happens.
They've discovered one of the mechanisms in the brain that coordinates
appetite and metabolism.
If researchers could figure out a way to lower it -- the way you would a household thermostat, people could lose weight and keep it off easily.
Mark Hendricks reports that's at least a possibility now, as a result of this research.

The new version is a palm sized device that can download music from Internet while still protecting copyrights.
The Memory Stick Walkman uses encryption technology to block unauthorized music transfer or playback.
Users can move music from their favorite C-D into a computer and then onto the new memory stick.
The player weighs less than three ounces and is just slightly larger than a credit card.
It will be released in December.
