21-year old Derrick Chapman, who was appointed an attorney this afternoon, is charged with plotting to shoot Circuit Judge Ray Grubbs in the head.
Chapman is no stranger to the legal system-- two years ago he was acquitted of first degree murder in Pulaski County.
Chapman's father believes Police are targetting his son because of that.

(( North Carolina was spared the worst of Hurricane Irene, but the storm still left its mark on the flood-ravaged state.
Irene dumped nearly a foot of rain over parts of eastern North Carolina -- adding to the misery caused by Hurricane Floyd just last month. Low-lying areas that never recovered from Floyd's record deluge, are now dealing with even more flooding ... as dams overflow and rivers crest above flood stage.
Irene also touched off two tornadoes ... that ripped apart roofs,
banged up cars, and overturned mobile homes.

Hundreds of families are now staying at shelters -- displaced once again by a major storm. And after weathering three hurricanes in the past two months, people here are now looking forward to calmer days.

Two men are in custody after a two- hour standoff with Amherst County authorities this morning.

Police say 32-year- old Terry Hackett was being evicted from his Madison Heights apartment and threatened the landowner with a knife when she came to inspect the property.
Sheriff's deputies were called when Hackett and another man, 27-year old David Burks refused to leave the home.

A SWAT team eventually burst into the residence and arrested both men.
They're facing charges of threatening to burn a dwelling and destruction of property.

American Home Products says it has requested an immediate return of all vaccine doses.
Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhea in young children.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says studies show the vaccine may have caused bowel obstructions in some infants.
Two babies died as a result of that.
