But for most, white coat hypertension isn't a big problem. We realize those elevated readings go down once you leave the office.
But that's not always the case for pregnant women.
VT=VO
A study in the Journal of the American medical Association says one in three pregnant women have white coat hypertension and are at risk for an unnecessary C-section.
That's because when we see high readings in pregnant women, we are prone to use high blood pressure drugs...which have the side effect of slowing down or preventing labor...hence the c-section.

Also in the journal...a study of special importance to baby boomers. It says an hour a day of walking can cut the risk of diabetes in half. And that's an important finding since cases of this disease are sky rocketing as the population ages.
What makes this study so good is that it's the first to show you can protect yourself from diabetes without breaking a sweat.
Even better, this hour walk doesn't need to be done all at once. It can be split up into smaller segments over the course of a day.

And finally, a study from the National Cancer Institute says smokers can cut their risk of lung cancer by 20% by eating lots of foods high in vitamin E such as nuts and whole grains. And possibly by taking vitamin
supplements.
However researchers say the best and simplest way to cut the risk is to kick the habit.
