One of the most respected men in the Roanoke Valley has passed away.
Former Roanoke Mayor Noel C. Taylor was a teacher, a pastor and an eloquent leader who helped the Valley through both difficult and prosperous times.
He died this morning of heart failure at the age of 75.

That alone is a major accomplishment... but Noel Taylor's legacy has even greater significance... from a political, personal, and pastoral perspective.

((As a young Baptist Minister Noel Taylor wasn't afraid to speak his mind. In the early 60s he was a leader of the local civil rights movement, and he pressed the city to close the Washington Street Dump in northwest Roanoke.

By 1970 he was running for Roanoke city council, as a Republican. He won...defying political stereotypes and the odds.

As much as he did for the city, Noel Taylor was most proud of his role as pastor of High Street Baptist Church. Even after he stepped down from city council, he continued to deliver the Sunday sermon.
And for members such as Deacon A. Byron Smith, the death of Noel Taylor leaves a huge hole and a shining example.

Back in July, Bedrosian was charged with assault and battery for spanking another person's child in a doctor's waiting room. He says he was protecting his newborn daughter. The judge dismissed the case.

Stewart's wife Tracey and two children would listen to several talk about their friend.
