Virginia may well be on the eve of a seismic power shift.
Strategists from both parties now seem to agree:
General Assembly elections around the Commonwealth tomorrow appear likely to tip the balance of power in the House of Delegates to the Republican party.
That would end a century of Democratic dominance, and kick off a new century with the G-O-P in control of every branch of state government.

IF THE REPUBLICANS IN FACT GAIN CONTROL OF BOTH CHAMBERS, THEY'RE LIKELY TO PUT TWO AND MAYBE THREE DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSPEOPLE IN JEOPARDY.))
[runs=:24]
The GOP has more than money in its bid for state house control.
It has luck.
Only two Republican incumbents retired this year -- while four Democrats did.
(----------)
[Live=Ellen Full/Microwave]
[SUPER=205-Richmond;]
One thing to keep in mind: the power-sharing agreement hammered out in the House -- amidst great discord in 1998 -- would require either party to win a 55- seat majority to cancel the agreement.
That's a stretch for either party.
Or for whichever party has a majority to welch on a past promise.
[Double Boxes=Keith & Ellen/Microwave]
Q&A KEITH: A reminder that there are still a lot of unopposed incumbents...
ELLEN: That's right. 19 out 40 Senate seats and 48 out of 100 House seats are already decided before voters ever head to the polls.
And as usual, Virginia voters will of course pick the delegate and senator they like-- without much regard to the mathematics of power in Richmond.
