[***NOTE ANCHOR TAG***] One of this week's election winners is a woman who championed a bill .. that could make it harder to get divorced in Virginia.

((JEANNEMARIE DEVOLITES/R-FAIRFAX CO.: SO HOW IS MY MOM SPECIAL? WELL, HER STRENGTH AND BELIEF IN MY FAMILY HAS MADE AND KEPT US CLOSE.))
[runs=:07]

So Devolites signed on last year as one of ten sponsors of House Bill 1056-- the Covenant Marriage Act.
It hasn't yet become law-- but it would allow marriages in Virginia that are much harder to end... and require an oath, that reads in part: "...marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman who agree to live together as husband and wife for so long as they both may live."
And "...we commit ourselves to take all reasonable efforts to preserve our marriage, including marital counseling."

The punch line is Jeannemarie Devolites is now publicly acknowledging that she's separated from her husband John.
[sot 12:15:49]

((CRAIG BIEBER/VIRGINIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY: IT SEEMS ESPECIALLY IRONIC IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT SHE DOES PRESENT HERSELF AS A CHAMPION OF FAMILY VALUES, AS A CHAMPION OF THE COVENANT MARRIAGE ACT, THAT HER OWN SITUATION WOULD BE ONE THAT HER OWN BILL WOULD BE DESIGNED TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM DOING.))
[runs=:20]

Devolites still defends the bill, saying: "There are people who want this, and we're responding to a demand."
It would be an option, NOT a mandate.
And in keeping with the spirit of the bill, she points out: "No one's filed for divorce in this marriage yet."
[sot devolites video 10:40]

((JEANNEMARIE DEVOLITES/R-FAIRFAX CO.: THANK FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WATCH THIS VIDEO. I'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH A LOVING, SUPPORTIVE FAMILY. THEY'VE GIVEN ME THE STRENGTH AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS.))
