A hit and run accident on Interstate 581 in Roanoke has left one man dead.

It happened shortly after 9 o'clock tonight.
The man was apparently walking in the northbound lane near the Colonial Wonju exit when a car struck him twice.
So far, police have not identified the man but say he is between the ages of 40 and 55.
Authorities say they're uncertain how he was hit.

Another accident has traffic backed up tonight.
This one-- involving two tractor trailers on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County.
It happened shortly after 10 o'clock-- near exit 143 in the Northbound lane.
Lifeguard 10 has landed to transport two victims to the hospital.
No word yet on the extent of their injuries.
State police say traffic is blocked for several miles.

A Roanoke man is in custody tonight charged with second degree murder.
46- year old Frances Marshall Johnson turned himself in to police this evening.
He's accused of stabbing a man in Roanoke late last night.

A V-A hospital spokesman says Gene Greer was either thrown or pushed to the ground yesterday morning by a patient in the psychiatric unit.
Another staff member and two other patients received minor injuries.

The Christian Coalition is moving its headquarters to Northern Virginia.
Leaders of the organization hope the move from Chesapeake will heighten the impact of its pro-family message on Capitol Hill.

This week city council voted unanimously to begin the process of becoming a town.
The decision comes after a consultant reported that property taxes and solid waste fees would drop significantly if the city joined surrounding Alleghany County.

A Henry County farmer says he used to feed cocaine to his chickens to make them fight better.
But his story didn't wash with a federal jury in Danville.
William Long was convicted yesterday of cocaine possession.
Prosecutors argued that the quarter ounce of cocaine found in Long's farmhouse was for human consumption and his chickens were clean.

Organizers say the fundraiser will help the riding program expand.

The Virginia Tech Hokies will take over the number two spot in the bowl series rankings.
Shayne Graham booted a 44 yard field goal as time ran out to lead the Hokies to a 22 to 20 win over West Virginia.

After a scoreless first quarter, Vick hands off to Andre Kendrick and he's off down the sideline for a 47 yard touchdown run and the Hokies took the seven to nothing lead.
But the Mountaineers rallied. Marc Bulger throws the 7 yard touchdown pass to Kohri Ivy and the game was tied at 7 to 7 at the half.
Tech led 12 to 7 in the third then Vick hands off to Shryone Stith and he takes it 4 yards to the house for the score and the Hokies led 19 to 7.
But West Virginia rallied in the fourth back up quarterback Brad Lewis hits Ivy on this 16 yard T-D pass and the Mountaineers led 20 to 19 with just over a minute left in the game.

Warner Brothers gave away four hundred free tickets earlier this week.
The 76 minute animated film opens in nearly 3-thousand theaters nationwide on Novmber 10th.
The film was preceded by a short feature called "Pikachu's (peek-a-chew's) Vacation"
