(( Since Sunday, reverand Jesse Jackson has put Decatur, Illinois, in the national spotlite. He's on a crusade, trying to pressure the localschool boarfd into letting 7 students return to class. He says they were unfa9irly punished for fighting. Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rainbow/Push Coaltion "No guns, no knives, no drugs." The teens were expelled for 2 years for taking part in a brawl during a September football game. Though the board cut the penalty in half and is aloowing the students to pursue an education outside the school, Jackson contends it is still too harsh. Kenneth Arndt, Schools Superintendant, "The students would like to receive an education and they have that opportunity to reeive that education today. But now the demands and requests are getting larger and larger." On two new legal fronts, four of the seven have been charged with mob action and one of the four with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
And Jackson went to federal court alleging the teenagers' civil rights were violated.
The schools remain quiet. The 2800 students, forced to stay home for a second day. That doesn't sit well with some parents. Tina Corbin, Parent, "My concern is the fact that my child is not in school because of this. My child who has done nothing wrong is being punished becuase of this. Jesse Jackson, "We did not lock them out of school The superintendent did. Our mission is not to keep 2800 out, but to get 7 in.))

Five VMI rats- -or freshman cadets- have been drummed out for beating up one of their classmates.
A committee of upper-class cadets recommended they be dismissed, and the Administration endorsed the decision.
The five would-be cadets had entered the barracks room of Theodore Frances at four A-M, wrapped him up in his bedroll and beat him.
"I simply will not have such conduct at V-M-I," said Major General Josiah Bunting, "and neither will the Corps of Cadets," he said.
