The man who killed a Hampton police officer in 1994 will be executed tonight unless the U-S Supreme Court or Governor Gilmore intervenes.
Thomas Lee Royal, Junior pleaded guilty to shooting the officer in the head.
Royal would be the 13th person executed in Virginia this year.

With a unanimous vote- Virginia Tech's Board of Visitors has named a new leader for the new millenium.
Yesterday the board chose Charles (Stee-ger) Steger as the university's 15-th President.

Don't smoke and get some exercise, etc. etc. What happens when people actually follow all those etc. Well a study of more than 84 thousand nurses found by following all the etc.'s you can cut your risk of heart disease by a huge 82%. Those rules are don't smoke, don't be overweight, 30 minutes of exercise every day have one alcoholic drink every day eat low fat, eat high fiber. But here's the catch, only 1% of those 84% were able to follow those rules every day. Also why one of the best treatments for high blood pressure may be named Fido or Kitty.

Researchers at the American Heart Association say people with high blood pressure can get even better control by having a dog or cat. In the study, when people get stressed out , their blood pressure shot up almost 3o points. After getting a pet, blood pressures went up about 6 points.

Police found her in Pitt's Hollywood Hills mansion wearing his clothing.
She had to appear in court yesterday when she quit going to court-ordered counseling.
She told a judge she couldn't afford the sessions.
The judge set another hearing next week to determine whether Rolando's claims are legitimate.
If she is found in violation of her probation she could do jail time.

Microsoft makes up a significant part of some of the most popular funds.
So if the stock falls, it could have at least a small impact on many people.
So far, the stock is holding ground.
And many experts say if regulators break up Microsoft ... investors would cash in.
They would own stock in a number of smaller high-tech companies with the potential to make more money.

The fire at the International Paper plant in Stuart is still burning this morning.
Yesterday, emergency personnel said the two men who were killed most likely sparked the fire while dismantling a wood silo - with a cutting torch.
Volunteer firefighters have been battling heavy smoke and exhaustion from working around the clock to contain the fires.

Charles Steger will lead Virginia Tech into the New Millenium.
Yesterday, Tech's board of visitors unanimously chose him as the school's 15-th President.
The 52-year old is a familiar face around campus.
Steger received his undergraduate, masters and P-H-D at Virginia Tech and is currently the school's Vice President for Development and University Relations.

Adventure Travel in Roanoke has already sold a fourth of their New Orleans package to Hokie fans not wanting to be left at home this year.
