NARR:
Two underwater robots had been called in to look for the recorders. But after its first overnight dive, the latest arrival, a slightly more sophisticated civilian sub, was damaged by the wreckage.
In the end, it was the Navys Deep Drone the robot that has spent more than 11 hours combing the ocean floor unsuccessfully, that finally gave investigators the break they were looking for.

With only bits of wreckage recovered so far, the recorder information is crucial to solving what may have happened when the 767 plummeted into the ocean more than a week ago killing all 217 on board.
The jets other black box the cockpit voice recorder is just as valuable, but remains hidden somewhere in the wreckage on the ocean floor.
The search for that will continue throughout the day with good weather expected to last until sometime tomorrow.
COWAN ON CAM:
But that search is being complicated by the fact that investigators are still hearing two beacons sounding underwater one of them apparently separated from the data recorder as a result of the crash. Still, they
